Malloy's mystery illness has been officially diagnosed as Roseola. You can't really tell in these pictures, but she has a mild rash on her neck, chest and back. Malloy was sent home from school Tuesday with a fever and she continued to have one until Friday afternoon. When we went into the pediatrician on Thursday she suspected it was Roseola and said not to be alarmed if she broke out in a rash once the fever went away.
According to webmd: Roseola often starts with a sudden high fever [103 F to 105 F] that lasts 2 to 3 days, although it can last up to 8 days. The rapid increase in temperature may be the first sign of roseola and often occurs before you realize that your child has a fever. The fever ends suddenly. After the fever ends, a rosy-pink rash may appear over your child's entire body, starting on the torso and spreading to the face, neck, and arms. The rash is not itchy and may last 1 to 2 days.
Whew! It is nice to know exactly what is wrong with your child. Often it is "just a virus" and you don't know how to treat it or when it will go away. At least now that the rash has appeared, I know that in a day or two Malloy should be back to normal.
