Messy Eater

Malloy has started to enjoy eating now that we are offering her a wide variety of "table foods" rather than baby food. She especially enjoys feeding herself. Unfortunately, she loves to rub her head while she is eating and that often results in a less than desirable hair style. Yesterday's afternoon snack of American cheese was promptly following by a thorough hair washing.

Happy Easter

Malloy's first Easter was great. The weather was not too cold and she got to wear her Easter bonnet. She cooperated surprisingly well - I thought she would definitely pull the bonnet off as soon as I tried to put it on, but she actually wore it for much of the day.

mmmm. Banana Pudding for dessert.

Hey. There is nothing in these eggs!

Hippity Hoppity

Malloy's grandmother, Dearie, bought her this adorable little Easter outfit complete with the carrot top hat. It was a challenge to get a photo of her actually wearing the hat, but I did manage to snap a few shots before she pulled it off.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Malloy enjoyed some local St. Patrick's Day festivities at O'Brien's Irish Pub.
She liked the inflatable leprechaun, but was not so sure about the bagpiper.

Gymboree Day

Malloy loves her weekly Gymboree class. We go on Friday afternoons and she always has so much fun. Today Malloy completed several baby obstacle courses - crawling up inclines, through tunnels, and down slides. As you can see, she really loves Gymbo, the clown mascot.

Neighborhood Watch

Malloy surveys the activity on Slattery Boulevard. She likes to watch the cars and people outside. Last Friday she caught a glimpse of a rare snowstorm in Shreveport.

Pop!

Malloy got a new toy this week. It is called the Ball Popper. It has a little motor that blows air and shoots the very lightweight balls into the air. It is quite entertaining!

More Swimming

As you can see, Malloy is really enjoying her swim lessons.

She is starting to kick as she tries to chase after the floating red ball.

Feeding Time

Malloy never has been a particularly good eater, but lately it has become increasingly difficult to feed her. She turns her head, closes her mouth, spits and even starts crying. This does not make for a pleasant dinnertime experience. Last night I decided that perhaps she is unhappy because she wants to have more control over the eating process. She does enjoy picking up "finger foods" and putting them in her mouth. The struggle begins when the spoon comes into the picture. I had to put aside all of my "neat freak" tendancies and I decided to let Malloy attempt to feed herself. I handed her a spoon and gave her unlimited access to the containers of fruit medley and squash. She wasn't too skilled with the spoon, but she enjoyed putting her hands into the babyfood. While she was distracted by this new found freedom, I was able to shovel almost a container and a half of babyfood into her mouth. The aftermath of this feeding technique was not pretty. Malloy required an immediate plunge in the bathtub and the kitchen was a disaster, but at least I got some food in her!!

Rest In Peace Belle McInnis 1995-2008

Today we lost a member of our family. Belle passed away overnight. I took Belle to the vet on Monday. We noticed that she was very lethargic and was losing weight. She was only 6.1 lbs and was diagnosed with diabetes and kidney failure. The vet put her on an IV and gave her insulin and kept her overnight to monitor her. Her condition did not improve and the vet kept her overnight last night too. She passed away in her sleep. She will be missed by Kyle, Malloy, me and especially her sister Cleo.
